Assembling a successful Southeastern Conference offensive line doesn’t happen overnight.

The strength, size and depth required to curate a unit in charge of protecting a quarterback is no small feat, and it is something Texas football is still working on mastering.

However, this past weekend, as fireworks lit up the sky and Fourth of July celebrations commenced, the Longhorns celebrated a victory of their own in bolstering their future offensive front through a commitment from Ismael Camara, a five-star offensive lineman.

Camara, a 6-foot-6, 340-pound prospect from Gilmer, Texas, has been ranked by 247Sports as the No. 14 recruit in the country and No. 2 overall offensive tackle. Originally from Le Mans, France, he moved to Texas ahead of his sophomore year of high school to pursue a football career. Although he was forced to sit out for a year due to Texas high school transfer rules, he became a highly sought-after recruit once he took the field during his junior season.

Camara chose Texas over several other national powerhouses, including Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State and Oklahoma. Gabe Brooks, 247Sports Scouting Analyst, described him as an “elite offensive line prospect with rare combination of high-end physical tools and functional athleticism.”

Not only does this make him a promising candidate to become an offensive threat for the Longhorns, it also catapults Texas’ recruiting class into the top five nationally. Texas A&M, who holds the No. 1 overall position, is now the only SEC program the Longhorns trail in the rankings.

Camara is the Longhorns’ third five-star recruit of this cycle, joining cornerback John Meredith III and wide receiver Easton Royal. He will also join four other offensive linemen on Texas’ list of commits: four-star Brian Swanson and three-stars Keyon Hemphill-Woods, Lucas Rhoa and Jackson Cook.

Most, if not all, of these players will likely make their way to the Forty Acres this January to start training, working to help Texas develop a reputation of size, strength and depth among opposing defensive lines in the SEC.

It will be then that Camara will start to figure out where he fits and how he can make his mark just over four hours southwest of Gilmer.
